The WIAA finally folded and Ty is officially cleared to play for his country. It is a relief to see them stop blocking these kids from their dreams after all the pressure we applied. We won this fight together and I appreciate everyone who pushed back against these ridiculous rules.

I wanted to make you aware of the unprecedented situation involving our son Ty Emberson (sophomore age 15) and the WIAA (Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association). The short version of the story is Ty was selected to play for the USA hockey team in the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Lillehammer Norway February 12 – 22, 2016. He is the first Wisconsin hockey player to be asked to participate in the winter Youth Olympic Games. We asked the WIAA for a policy waiver so Ty would be able to participate in the games and then return to Eau Claire Memorial High School to finish out playing with his team for the state tournament. This waiver was denied and we are asking for an emergency meeting of the WIAA Board of Control to rule on the matter. USA has to submit the final team roster to USOC and International Olympic Committee (IOC) by 1/5/16 so time is of the essence.
As I try remain hopeful for my own son in this matter I am equally passionate about making sure the WIAA changes their policy regarding Youth Olympic participants so your son, daughter, niece, or nephew isn’t the next one denied their opportunities.

The momentum behind this fight is proof that people are sick of the WIAA blocking dreams for the sake of rigid, outdated rules. The board needs to stop hiding and start listening to the reality of what this decision does to a kid who has earned his spot on the world stage.

When I was on the WIAA Hockey rules advisory board, I thought there were exceptions made for athletes playing for national teams in international tournaments where they were representing their country. I support Ty in his fantastic opportunity.
Seems like an extraordinary case which is due to timing of the Okympics and first round playoff games. Please grant an exception to the rule. Olympics are for amateur athletes, a high school athlete couldn't be more of an amateur.
Unprecedented situation calls for extraordinary action! Missing the first game of a 'tournament series' for your high school team while you play for USA should NEVER compromise an individual's eligibility. Make the right (and only) decision WIAA and LetTyPlay!
Please don't punish a boy for choosing to play for his country and choosing to stay in his hometown with his family attending and playing for his school's hockey team instead of moving away to play juniors. He has made good choices.
Ty is only in this position because he plays a winter sport. If it were a volleyball or football player, a golfer or a tennis player, there would be no issue. Why should a winter sports athlete not have the same opportunity as other kids? Let Ty Play.

As a scout I always like to see a talented player play against the best competition for his age and this should be viewed by the WIAA as a opportunity to promote wisconsin prep hockey and not punish the student athlete for having the opportunity to represent his country. If WIAA hockey is going to continue to grow, situations like these need to be embraced and encouraged, not punished by the WIAA. If the WIAA doesn't adapt to the current climate of hockey it will continue to see its better players head to AAA programs! #lettyplay

I play u16 AAA hockey for Victory Honda and am drafted by Cedar Rapids Roughriders in the USHL. If this kid gets a chance to play for his country, he should have nothing holding him back. The leauge should be proud of this kid and be eager to let him play.
