Comments: My husband and I have grown a garden each year with the aim of providing for more and more of our own food needs. This practice has not only brought us closer to the environment, climate and seasons of the place we call home, but forced us to learn so many forgotten skills such as canning, cooking, and being more conscious of our diets. As food prices rise and the global food supply that our nation depends on becomes more uncertain, I encourage our nations' leaders to support mine and the efforts of my neighbors to become active players in the food and nutrition needs of our families and communities.

Comments: I can't grow anything other than trees, but I try to support local farming as much as possible. Perhaps if farmers could provide an easy way to know which products they have online, we could place orders and pick them up on market days. This would take some time to know and trust the farmers we liked, but the benefits and taste are tremendous. This is probably best handled at the market and municipal levels, but state and federal should certainly recognize any cities and communities making the effort to become homegrown.
