Ormond Beach Mayor Fred Costello once again perpetuated the biggest fraud ever sold to taxpayers across the US: major development bringing increased tax ratables will result in lower taxes. In fact, when you approve construction of 3000 homes you increase the need for additional services, especially schools, police, fire and EVAC protection, more hospitals, more garbage and public works services, more parks and recreational facilities and on and on. Guess what happens to your taxes! I've LIVED it in NJ, PA, Baltimore/DC, and in Palm Beach County Florida, the latter for 20 years. I've seen peaceful communities evolve into monstrous cities with bumper-to-bumper traffic. And I've seen politicians jailed for working closely with developers and making special deals behind locked doors, unfortunately after the damage had been done. Mayor Fred Costello stated not long after he took office in Ormond Beach almost eight long years ago that his dream was to "grow" Ormond Beach. Ninety percent of the taxpayers in Ormond Beach loved Ormond just the way it was before Costello got elected, and still do. Yet this great friend of every wealthy developer with land in Ormond has tried several times to change that. He looked the other way and let his silent partners who run Volusia County approve the construction of over 4000 homes in Ormond's scenic "Loop"- the most beautiful 28 miles of 2-lane road in all of Florida. He let it happen without any feasible plans for roads to get these people in and out of the Loop. Then he found a developer who had bought properties along A1A that had been destroyed in the Hurricanes in 2004. Costello and three of four Commissioners fought tooth and nail to allow this developer to change A1A in Ormond to the canyons of Miami Beach. Against Costello's will, the PEOPLE of Ormond Beach formed a group named CANDO, took it to referendum, and soundly stopped the ruthless Costello in his tracks, but only temporarily. Then Costello became friends with the developer who owns most of what was just approved by Costello and his four puppet commissioners as Ormond Crossings. These four rubberstamp without opposition or discussion whatever Costello wants. This monstrocity known as Ormond Crossings is destined to make Ormond and surrounding Volusia County, with the blessing of Volusia Growth Godfather Frank "Farmton" Bruno, another Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach County. I have every confidence that the PEOPLE of Ormond Beach will rise up again and will not let it happen. Costello, who should be running for his life, has the GALL to be running for state office. Sign below if you are opposed to Ormond Crossings, and if you prefer Fred Costello submit his resignation as Ormond Beach Mayor.
