Favorite Songs/Songs you want to see extended! Jan 5. 2013 | Comments (3)
What are your favorite songs from the musical? I know there are so many to chose from, but is there one in specific that just sticks out to you as a favorite?
I personally learned about Les Miserables through Master of the House. My father was playing the CD on a vacation, I listened to it and laughed through the whole thing. The next year we saw the play in London and now I am addicted! Of course One Day More, Confrontation, Who am I, I Dreamed a Dream, Stars, and all of the other Thenardier songs I love as well.
I really want to see an extended Beggars at the Feast, that one always lightened me up. But I am interested in seeing what you guys have to say as well!
I have always loved One Day More, but I adored the polish version. Look for the flashmob version on YouTube if you haven't seen it. It is proof that these songs are amazing in any language.
My fav. songs are: drink with me, stars, one day more and little people
I loved the movie, being Les Misérables my favourite book first, and then my favourite musical, although I regretted several important parts of it were cut for the film. Grantaire's part during Drink with Me, is a very emotional moment within the musical, for it's the moment in which the students accept death is impending, and the nihilistic Grantaire speaks about how life's just a lie and their deaths will mean nothing once the rebellion is crushed. The removal of Dog Eats Dog was just sinful. It's the song which truly shows Thénardier's reality, portraying him not only as a comical relief, but as a soulless, selfish man who lives in a cruel world. The fragments cut from A Heart Full of Love make the song lose the promise made between Cosette and Marius. The part removed from Javert's Suicide makes the cut featured at the movie sound weird, for it transitioned the introduction to the climax, as well as makes it lose Javert's soliloquy about his life dedicated to the pursuit of Jean Valjean.
Other songs which should be restored to their original length (since their removal cuts from the narrative of the story) are ABC Café, Beggars at the Feast, Come to Me, Turning, Fantine's Arrest, A Little Fall of Rain, Every Day, The Runaway Cart, and Master of the House, and On My Own.
