"Please note we would like to clarify the content policy we have in place since 2002. FanFiction.Net follows the Fiction Rating system ranging from Fiction K to Fiction M. Although Fiction Ratings goes up to Fiction MA, FanFiction.Net since 2002 has not allowed Fiction MA rated content which can contain adult/explicit content on the site. FanFiction.Net only accepts content in the Fiction K through Fiction M range. Fiction M can contain adult language, themes and suggestions. Detailed descriptions of physical interaction of sexual or violent nature is considered Fiction MA and has not been allowed on the site since 2002."
This petition is in the hopes that FanFiction.net will institute an MA
rating for "Explicit Content for Mature Adults Only," instead of further
tightening a creative block on the writers on the site. Writers do not
appreciate feeling constrained by a previously accomodating FFnet, and
being in fear of their work being taken down because of a debatable line
between M Rated and MA Rated stories. Nor do many of us want to migrate
to AdultFanFiction's website for the simple reason that FFnet has
enabled many of us to establish a known reader base (thanks to feature's
like "Author Alert,") that migration may/will lose. FFnet has a great
community, great support and is a favored choice by many and can only
stay this way by retaining a good standing with it's user base. Creative
constraints and hard "crack downs" with tightening policies is no way
of achieving this on a site who's purpose is "Unleash your
imagination,". We can fix this with some flexibility - adding an MA
rating, and some light enforcement of encouraging writers to label their
