Capt JSM was born in N. Leith in 1807, he and his sons were early shipbuilders, and Master Mariners. They designed and built the frist scow in NZ, this contributed greatly to the development of trade and settlement in NZ. We feel it is vital that Leith has a museum and wish your campaign every success.Flag

VArious family members were involved in ship-building and the ports. From a personal point of view I would there fore greatly value such a museum. But this is a lesser consideration than the immense local, national and international historical value of the community in Leith and the importance of its being conveyed via a locally based museum.
