Name: George Shand on May 2, 2007Comments: The sentiments above are pretty accurate. There needs to be a pulling together of all involved to make a Leith Museum a reality. I think this has not happened in the past. I do not think it will happen around the Port of leith development, which is commercially led, unless everybody does get together in partnership. I do not support a Museum full of artefacts, rather a museum which can connect us with the social history of Leith. So much of the history of Leith is social history, and if nothing happens soon, a whole period of leith history will be totally lost to the future.

Without wishing to denigrate anywhere else, many smaller places with lesser credentials have museums. Leith has a long and very interesting history, and should definitely have a museum to celebrate its past, and for the edification of the present and future generations.

With the current influx of EU immigrants it shows that Leith is in an ever mode of change. A museum is a place that records historic changes for all to see the variety of cultures that makes this community.

All the Sikh's stayed in Leith at this time. We regard ourselves as Scottish Sikhs. In my years I have seen a lot changes. Now with the EU immigrants Leith is seeing another changes. A museum records historic changes. It would be good for the tourists as well as the locals to see the changes that have occurred and are occuring to this vibrant community.

In the 19th century Leith was where the concept of Scotch whisky blending began, so starting the popularity of what would become today Scotland's most famous and economically important industry. Many famous brands began life in Leith's bonded warehouses, providing employment for several generations of Leithers. This era merits a section of its own in any Leith museum.

It was great to live there, my mum lived in 11 Dock Place, her window looked over the docks. My dad was in the navy in the Great War. Now its so different.
