Name: George Shand on May 2, 2007Comments: The sentiments above are pretty accurate. There needs to be a pulling together of all involved to make a Leith Museum a reality. I think this has not happened in the past. I do not think it will happen around the Port of leith development, which is commercially led, unless everybody does get together in partnership. I do not support a Museum full of artefacts, rather a museum which can connect us with the social history of Leith. So much of the history of Leith is social history, and if nothing happens soon, a whole period of leith history will be totally lost to the future.Flag

Name: Robert N Baird on May 2, 2007Comments: I find it quite shocking that there is, as yet, no Leith museum. Without wishing to denigrate anywhere else, many smaller places with lesser credentials have museums. Leith has a long and very interesting history, and should definitely have a museum to celebrate its past, and for the edification of the present and future generations.Flag

Name: John on May 2, 2007Comments: I should have added that www.leithhistory.co.uk. www.lineages.co.uk and persevere.lineages.co.uk support a Leith Museum and Mark Lazarowicz. This should have happened a long time age ago. Look out for the Leith Gazette and the Evening News tomorrowFlag

Name: Gurmit Singh on May 3, 2007Comments: I am a Scottish Sikh having lived all of my 52 yrs in Leith. I and most of the Sikh community are a part of Leith history. With the current influx of EU immigrants it shows that Leith is in an ever mode of change. A museum is a place that records historic changes for all to see the variety of cultures that makes this community.Flag

Name: Gurmit Singh on May 3, 2007Comments: I am a 52yrs Sikh and have stayed in Leith all my life, like most other Sikh in Edinburgh. We began to settle in Leith around 1958. All the Sikh's stayed in Leith at this time. We regard ourselves as Scottish Sikhs. In my years I have seen a lot changes. Now with the EU immigrants Leith is seeing another changes. A museum records historic changes. It would be good for the tourists as well as the locals to see the changes that have occurred and are occuring to this vibrant community.Flag

Name: Anonymous on May 3, 2007Comments: A museum in Leith would be a great insight into the past for those who have not appreciated its development and change over the years. Once a small independent burgh, it grew into a thriving part of Edinburgh, the dock life contributing hugely to its success.Flag

Name: Fred Guy on May 3, 2007Comments: Ensuring that the history of the evolution of an area is both recorded and made accessible to citrizens and visitors in as attractive a way as possible is a mark of a civilised and mature community. Leith deserves nothing less than a modern, high quality museum in which the past can be brought alive.Flag

Name: Angus Bruce on May 3, 2007Comments: After completing 36 years in Leith's once flourishing Scotch whisky sector, I fully support the campaign for a Leith museum. In the 19th century Leith was where the concept of Scotch whisky blending began, so starting the popularity of what would become today Scotland's most famous and economically important industry. Many famous brands began life in Leith's bonded warehouses, providing employment for several generations of Leithers. This era merits a section of its own in any Leith museum.Flag

Also I have worked for a few Advertising Agencies also. I have a few tales to tell. And probably would like to contribute some knowledge I have of the area. I will forward this onto a few people I know who will gladly sign this petition. Regards Irene Sweeney TownsleyFlag

Name: Lawrence Dinse on May 4, 2007Comments: I agree there should have been a leith museum built by now. With the millions being made on the Waterfront, The developers along with the council should have been far more pro active in creating a museum. The people deserve it, with a history second to none. I support the cause all the way. Kind Regards Lawrence Dinse.Flag

Name: Janet Ormiston on May 5, 2007Comments: Leith should not be forgotten, my childhood was spent there and as I am 84 quite a long time ago. It was great to live there, my mum lived in 11 Dock Place, her window looked over the docks. My dad was in the navy in the Great War. Now its so different. Good luck with your museum, Id love to be able to see it.Flag
