Comments: Our major cities in Ontario (esepcially Toronto) need a more cycling infrastructure now! The benefits are numerous: reduce road con!estion, reduce health costs, reduce air pollution, reduce road repair cost, etc.. Build it and they will come, and it costs a small fraction of other transportation modes to build.

Comments: As an avid cyclist, I have been able to save money, improve my health and enjoy the freedom that riding offers. Not only am I increasingly concerned with the danger of cycling in Toronto but I have found it difficult to transport my bike with me when traveling outside of the GTA. The expense, restrictions and procedures for tranporting bikes on trains and buses have often led to me leaving the bike at home or arranging to transport the bike by car. For example, I will be going to Manitoulin Island this summer and to take the bike via train/bus, it has to be either disassembled or boxed/wrapped in plastic/packaging to be loaded as cargo. As I also have luggage and other items to bring, this is prohibitive as an option. Too bad...

Comments: Every road, both urban and rural, should include bike lanes which are physically separated from cars. Materials being trucked in huge 18-wheelers should be on trains. By the way, passengers should be able to find reliable train service too. Trains emit half the amount of pollution that airplanes do.

Comments: Absolutely! And, although I don't know that it would necessitate inclusion in legislation, we might furthermore take a cue from Ireland, which just set up a national car-pool by making use of cell-phone GPS to link drivers with those needing rides. This could, potentially, greatly reduce the number of cars on our roads, and also greatly increase availability and use of public transit without additional infrastructure costs because it would use already existing vehicles and routes.

Comments: The bicycle infrastructure in Toronto is shameful, to say the least. We have had international guests from New York, Amsterdam and Berlin and they were shocked at how behind Toronto is in accommodating cyclists. For example, cyclists in Toronto are manoeuvering a city that has not only too few and inadequate bike lanes, but on top of it bike lanes that suddenly disappear. My daughter at 5 years old used to say: "Are we supposed to go poof and disappear?" The city is playing with peoples' lives. Cycling is one of the best and healthiest modes of transportation and it is time that Ontario invests in proper bicycle infrastructure and pays respect to the ever increasing number of cyclists of all ages.
