Comments: I had a beautiful homebirth of my daughter (3rd child) with a CPM. I believe in the safety of CPMs. My daughter is proof of that! I also had excellent prenatal care, labor support and postpartum care by my CPM. I cannot imagine giving birth any other way now and wish that all Marylanders could have access to CPMs and that my midwife wouldn't be at risk of being jailed for taking care of me and my daughter. Many women in Maryland that I know also have given birth at home with CPMs. It is time to legalize our CPMs and encourage more young CPMs to practice in our area so that women have a choice in who attends their homebirth. I also know a few women who have had unassisted births at home because they didn't know where to find the unique and amazing care of a CPM because they are not legal, they are not on public listings. Please increase our consumer access to CPM care, lower our infant and maternal mortality and morbidity rates in Carroll County and throughout Maryland by allowing us to choose our provider in the home setting and allowing our CPMs to practice legally. Thank you!

Comments: Maryland families deserve the freedom to choose which qualified professional will be their birth attendant. Maryland families frequently cross state lines in order to legally receive care from CPMs or they choose to birth unattended. CPMs are specifically mentioned in the Health Care Reform bill. Shouldn't Maryland families have access to all providers recognized under Health Care Reform?

Comments: I can't believe anyone would deny women the right to the wonderful care provided by CPM's. I delivered my babies at home and am so thankful that it is legal in my state.

Comments: Women in Maryland need more birthing options. CPMs are qualified and caring providers that women should legally have the right to choose when it comes to their prenatal care and delivery.

Comments: Every women should have the right to choose homebirth and be provided with educated midwives. I had a safe homebirth for $500.00 If it wasnt for my midwife I would have labored alone in my home with no assistants is that what we want for women in one of the most advanced nations on the planet.

Comments: When I was pregnant with my second child, I wanted a home birth. Specifically, I wanted to be attended by a Certified Professional Midwife because out of hospital birth is their expertise. It is what all their training involves. However, in Maryland, these midwives are felons. This makes it challenging to locate this type of care provider. Unwilling to put myself and my child through an experience that I felt would lead to many unnecesary and potentially harmful interventions, I decided to give birth at home without a midwife present. It was a beautiful birth but it left me angry that a woman in this state would be put in a position to have to make that kind of choice. Maryland is a progressive, and relatively liberal state, that values protecting women's rights. Limiting access to qualified care providers is a violation of reproductive and parental rights; legislators need to put an end to this.

Comments: Women must be able to choose from multiple options as they prepare for childbirth. Midwives are a safe and proven option, and should be encouraged and supported widely. Please ensure that midwives can legally assist women in these important times of their lives.

Comments: Women should have the right to birth with whomever they choose and wherever they choose. I have given birth in a hospital with OBs, a freestanding birth center with CNMs and had a homebirth with a CPM and the homebirth was the most amazing by far!
