I believe bike motors should be legalized in california for many reasons.I do realize that there are good and negative sides to bike motors.Some negative sides to owning them are that motor parts might be easily taken,if someone has the right tools.This eventually would add up to the owners bill on the motor from buying replacement parts,or even a new motor entirely. Inexpeirienced riders may also have a higher risk of crashing into another object such as another bike or a car.The rider also woudnt have much protection against a crash if they had a collision with a vehicle of any size. Since the motors are a bit pricey depending on the kind you want,the rider may not be able to purchase one right away,especially if they are in a financial state where they cant buy many extra items. Although there are some bad qualities to bike motors,there are also numerous positive reasons to allow bike motors in California.One such reason is it would help take off congestion on the streets and freeways,so there wouldnt be as much traffic and the need for more streets and freeways would lessen,therefore resulting in less smog in the air which would also help reduce the risk of diseases such as asthma or lung cancer. Although the first models of bike motors emitted large amounts of pollution due to the oil and gasoline fuel mixture,the newer models produce a lot less pollution.Apart from the less pollution,the bike motors use a mere fraction of the gas the average car does.The motors average between 100 and 150 miles per gallon of gas unlike the avergae car which may get 15 to 20 MPG on the freeway.So peope who dont travel very far to and from work and only go by themselves would save loads of money. Since the motors use so little gas,the small use of gas would also impact the need for gas a lot less then using a car would.Everyone knows how outrageous gas prices are getting these days.If enough people started converting to bike motors,the need for America to fight for fuel would decline and gas prices might decline as well. And my final reason,is they are convienient.Simple as that.You coud make a quick trip to the store if you have bike rack bags,go to school/work or just go to a friends without having to use much money to get there.And if you happened to go to a place where parking fees,all you would need to do is find a pole,fence or any stationary object and lock up your bike and your good to go.
