Marijuana is illegal in the United States, although marijuana differs from many other drugs such as it is not chemically made and is grown. I understand that other drugs are dangerous, but what is so dangerous about weed? Alcohol is legal, yet it has similar effects, at one point alcohol was illegal as well. We as Americans have in our Declaration of Independence, "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" but we aren't allowed the pursuit of happiness while marijuana remains illegal. George Washington even grew marijuana, and by law the colony of Jamestown was required by law to grow cannabis. The US government could potentially save, and generate money with the legalization of marijuana, it is the US's number one cash crop. Legalization could also create jobs and promote small businesses and give the government vital tax dollars in our economy. If you say, "If weed was legal then everyone would do it" then why doesn't everyone smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol, both of those are legal, but everyone does do them simply because they are. I think marijuana does have use medically, but isn't it also our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?
