This is a petition to legalise American tarantulas in Australia.
Many people say they are harmful to Australian wildlife. When you think about it if there was an American T in the wild it would hunt bugs like crickets ect. The same bugs that Australian T's hunt and eat... Also how could they harm wildlife if they are pets that live in captivity! If they where to escape they wouldn't survive in t...he Austrian weather, they would last two weeks at the maximum. Tarantulas are all the same so why can't the beautiful breeds of America be shared amongst other countries? Aussie T's are known to be more aggressive so if we have aggressive native spiders in the wild what's so bad about a placid America T in captivity? Look at other native spiders, red backs and white tales can kill or harm people and native animals like kangaroos and wombats, but we aren't allowed T's that are calm and won't even have enough power to kill a human.

Also we are allowed all these venomous snakes in Australia that could possibly kill a small child but we can't have placid spiders?
Even different breeds of dogs that maul people but we can't have placid spiders?
Cats that go feral and kill native birds but still no placid spiders?

Help legalise the beautiful breeds of tarantula in Australia!! If there allowed in other countries why not Australia? Help spread this around, together we can share the beauty of exotic breeds

I agree with the statements above. I understand concerns about damages to native wildlife, but at the same time, I highly doubt that they could become an invasive species, given that they wouldn't survive being out in the wild if they did escape. It is legal in other countries, and if there were strict laws and restrictions in place I think it's possible to get them legalised?
