Comments: In Canada, where I live, it is 19 in some spots and 18 in others, and I believe it should be 18 because it's stupid to think that when you become an adult (18), you are denied rights that other adults have (19+)

Comments: If you're parents let you drink and you don't misuse it, then why shouldn't you be allowed to. Also, when you're 18 you can make pretty much all your decisions. So why not be able to make the decision to drink or not, as well

Comments: I agree and not because I'm only 19, but because I see how adults drink and how minors drink. We drink to get drunk. We find it fun and exciting because of the fact that we aren't allowed to do it. It's like smoking- someone under the age of 18 will smoke because they think its cool but people over the age of 18 just smoke because they're addicted. If everyone I've ever asked is telling me the truth that now that they are legal to drink it isn't as fun, then why wouldn't the drinking age get lowered Us underage "youth," who can go serve and die in the military, should be taught to drink when we are young so we don't abuse it in the manner that we do.

Comments: well, i think that all age restrictions should be banned worldwide, because children of today need independance and trust, however without it they rebel against laws and regulations, however without the regulations the improvment within high street gangs would be vast, because they would not want to drink because they are alloud, a form of reverse sicoligally.

Comments: Although I am a non-drinker myself, I beleive that lowering the drinking age would be benificial to the US. The cause of underage binge drinking is most likely brought on by the forbidden fruit phenomena. Once young people move away from their parents into an invironment with hundreds of other people their age, they use drinking to rebel against the rules that they were exposed to prior to their newfound freedom. It is probable that if the legal age was lowered to 18 and parental permission from age 16 as it is in Britain, people would be slowly introduced to alchohol and allowed to learn how to drink responsibly.

Comments: Because there have been so many limits on the ability for me and my friends to drink, we seize almost every opportunity we have to drink by getting drunk in the process. I've noticed that many of us become antsy if we haven't had alcohol for a while, which is a sure sign of potential alcoholism. I think this is a very common situation for adolescents in the US. If alcohol were made moderately available to America's youth, then statistically, it is almost certain that we wouldn't go overboard with it as often.

Comments: I think the drinking law should be lowered to 18 for these reasons: 1.you can get married at 18 2.you can serve for your country at 18. 3.you can buy a rifle at 18. 4.you can buy cigarettes at 18. 8.Get a credit card at 18. 9.you are legally considered an adult at 18. 10.you can play the lotto at 18. 11.you can vote at 18. 12.You can sign contracts at 18. 13.You can own your own business at 18. 14.You can get abortions at 18. 15.You can get tattoos at 18. 16.Buy a house at 18. 17.Have a full career at 18. That is why I think they should lower the drinking age.

Comments: I believe that the legal age to drink should be lowered because I believe that if teens could drink legally it would eliminate a lot of underage drunk driving. Perhaps a drinking class could be provided or something that you could pass that would allow you to drink. (Kinda like hunting.)

Comments: Officers have more to worry about out there, then standing outside clubs and going through parties to put people in jail for minor consumption and fake identification. If the drinking age was lowered, real problems will be taken care of!

Comments: My family is from Spain and you are allowed to drink with your family in public or private at any age. I agree that by exposing children to alcohol sooner, they will be less likely to turn into alcoholics or abuse the substance.

Comments: I've lived my entire teenage life in Portugal, so speaking from first hand experience, i absolutely agree with this. Also, everyone knows that kids in the US under 21 drink, and all that the government is doing is encouraging the kids to get fake IDs', opening up doors to other substances restricted to minors. for example, if a 17 year old gets a fake ID that says 22, not only can he drink, smoke, go clubbing, but also purchase guns. In addition to this, I believe that lowering the legal drinking age would cause less DUIs from minors because they won't be in such a hurry to go home before they get caught. This means that they will consume as much as alcohol possible in a short amount of time, then get in a car.

Comments: truly the drinking age needs to be lowered most of the US was build on religious belief. that is not the case anymore, if someone is old enough to buy cigarettes, join the military if they wish, go to bars or clubs, own a gun etc. they have the right to NOT ONLY DRINK ALCOHOL BUT BUY IT AS WELL. just because of a few bad apples that made the wrong decision and gotten into trouble or got themselves hurt dosent mean it has to be ruined for everyone else! their are kids out their as you read this drinking and trying to get others to buy alcohol for them. People 18- 20 years old is considered an adult and should be treated as so!
