In the summer of 1862, the federal troops at Chatham Manor in Stafford planned an attack on the good citizens of Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania, culminating in a December battle along Lee Drive, where they were ultimately repulsed and beat a hasty retreat. How fitting that in May 2012, 150 years later, the federal troops of the National Park Service, also headquartered across the river at Chatham Manor, planned another attack on the local community - spending $200,000 of taxpayer money and placing tons of pea gravel on a road that was beautifully repaved just a few months ago. This has created a hazardous situation for runners, cyclists and strollers alike, and has already resulted in at least one bike crash. Please help us to force the federals to beat a hasty retreat again by signing our petition.http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/lee_drive/Terry Dorn, Fredericksburg Cyclists Club
