| 2323 | jane osborne | I am a counsellor and work with students who have difficulties in school. I am constantly seeing at-risk kids who cannot be successful at school because there are insufficient supports and resources in place for them. This must be seen as a core priority or we will continue to "lose" far too many kids. I am also baffled as to why kids who are designated as behaviour problems rarely generate funding as they take up an enormous amount of staff time and greatly impact other students. The only way we can get some funding is for a student to be designated "IBI". The only way for that to happen is for an outside agency to be involved...this is a crucial problem as our most fragile and dysfunctional familes, from which these students most likely come, are the least likely to seek out and maintain these outside services. Thus these students cannot be designated and do not receive the support they require.
There are changes that need to be made and an increase in resources is needed. |

Cut them off from the money trough, and they start to understand. |
