The petition

Leicester City Council are proposing to dramatically cut the salaries of various staff including officers, technicians and low-paid workers after job evaluation processes. Hundreds of staff are being asked to accept pay cuts ranging from £400 to £8,000 in monetary terms - around 20-30% of our salaries. This is unacceptable.

The proposed reduction in salary will cause hardship for many people. In some cases, where two members of a family both work for the Council, they could be losing over £10,000 per annum. This is a devastating blow for staff who just want to continue with the job that they have been contracted to do. The 857 people being down-graded are employed in a wide variety of posts, in departments throughout the Council, so the impact will be widespread.

There is no question about the support for the other employees’ pay, but not at the expense of other equally hard working members of staff. Local government employees deserve fair pay and deserve compensation for past discrimination. Other employee’s pay, conditions, and jobs should not have to pay for this legal requirement. Nor should the public through cuts in services or big rises in Council Tax.

This petition will be sent to the Chief Executive, Councillors, Heads of Service and Job Evaluation team of Leicester City Council. Please sign it and pass it on to as many people as you can – The workforce deserve better than this offer, they deserve the wages of the job they signed up for.
