Name: John McKaig on Mar 19, 2007Comments: Typical of Dundee Council'c Education Department to make such an offensively high-handed decision without a thought for the history of Lawside and the affection it holds in the minds of former pupils!Flag

Name: James McKaig on Mar 19, 2007Comments: It is with dismay that I discovered the proud name of Lawside is to be no more. As a former pupil I feel very angry that those in authority have not consulted as many people as possible about this idea. Jimmy McKaig Pupil 1979 - 1983Flag

Name: Gerry Dignan on Mar 19, 2007Comments: I also feel that the name should not be allowed to disappear. With all due respect, St. Saviours does not have the history behind it to have equal status over Lawside. I, for one, was not consulted. Pupil 1969-75, parent 1996 to present.Flag

Name: Michael Carrie on Mar 19, 2007Comments: As a former pupil (1987-1993) I too would like to see the Lawside name continue on. 100 years of proud standards and tradition over just like that. A shame. I did not know of the new name until I read about it in the press. So much for a wide-consultation.Flag

Name: Andy Malone on Mar 19, 2007Comments: I don't care that this is likely to be counted in your petition but something has to be said. This is the type of snobbery that has held back education in Dundee for years. Having read the item in tonights Evening Telegraph Mr Barile would be wise to keep his patronising and condescending comments to himself. St Paul's will be a school for Catholic children in the North of Dundee today and in the future and not a replacement for Lawside, and it would be wise for everyone involved to remember this. The school has to begin without parochial issues of who comes from where. If the name Lawside were to remain what message would that send to the children and teachers from St. Saviours. You mention tradition, size and the influential role Lawside has played. St Saviours has done this since the day the school gates opened. There is a proud history to this school as well, albeit for a shorter time. Be thankful that the new school is still relatively close to your old one and move on.Flag
