It is important that we sign the attached and appear at the upcoming board of trustees meeting which is scheduled to take place this Thursday night, Nov 15 at 7:15pm at Village Hall on Central Ave.

November 12, 2012
Dear Mayor Oliner, Trustees Felder, Fragin, Langer, and Mael: In light of the damage and devastation that Hurricane Sandy has left in its wake, and other similar weather related events that have occurred over the last year, we the undersigned, hereby petition the Village to find and implement a solution to prevent the massive flooding that ravaged our homes as well as the Lawrence Village Yacht and Country Club (LYCC) as soon as possible. Since the majority of the flood waters that destroyed our collective properties spilled over from a surge emanating from the waters behind the Lawrence Village Marina and onto the 18th tee box, fairway, and green of the LYCC, logic would dictate that if we could build a dam or flood gate along that shoreline or raise the level of the entire 18th hole by 6-8ft by bringing in massive amounts of dirt, a land wall of sorts could be created to stop a similar surge from ever making it to our streets and structures. This theory is reinforced by the fact that no house in Harborview backing the water/marina took on any water from the rear of their homes. This was mostly due to the fact that they sit at least 6ft-8ft higher than the current level of the 18th hole. Obviously, the village would have to enlist the services of qualified professionals and engineers who are experts in this field, but we are confident that this can be accomplished and would even make the 18th hole a bit more interesting to play while protecting all of our homes, the golf course itself, and the clubhouse from future flooding in that area. We affix our names, addresses, and signatures below in an effort for you to understand how many of us this disaster truly affected. We all reside on the neighboring blocks to the LYCC, namely, Causeway, Monroe St, Harrison St., Meadow, Bayberry Rd, Barrett Rd, Muriel Ave, Margaret Ave, Kenridge Rd, Rock Hall Rd, Lawrence Ave, the front of Harborview, and Marbridge, Juniper Circle, etc. We also understand that the Village has a lot on their plate right now but would appreciate it greatly if you would give this top priority and not just "take it under advisement". You will assuredly be making decisions shortly as to the handling of the rebuilding of the LYCC and this should be taken into account as you make those decisions. As we all are rebuilding our homes, some of us for the second time, we do not want to have to go through this horrific experience again knowing that the village can find a suitable solution to prevent it from happening. We also applaud all of the efforts you have made on behalf of all Lawrence residents during these trying times. We know you are doing the best you can and will continue to do so. That is why we elected you in the first place. We need you to protect us and are calling on you to make this happen. Thanking you in advance and looking forward to an expeditious handling of this matter, we remain, Sincerely yours,
