To who it may concern I'm starting this petition in regards to sex offenders laws needing to be changed in Missouri. Not all sex offenders need to be on the registry. There are many that have made a mistake and is paying for it for the rest of their life. Separtation of the sex offenders laws and the the registry are vital to those who are not a threat to society. There is great misrepresentation as to what and who constitutes someone being labled as a sex offender. Sodomy and child molestation are two different levels of sex offender cases. Someone who is not a threat to society that are not harmful to children should not suffer the same punishment as those who are actually a threat. Please sign this petition to help change sex offender laws. In order to restore the lives of those who made simple mistakes or those who were wrongfully accused. Something that happened 15-20 years ago should not be used against someone who has not had another case against them, futhermore especially if they are not a threat to society or children. A simple mistake to pre-meditated are two different things. Break downs need to be changed on what classifies a sex offender and the level of the punishment. They should not all be under the same category. Please help in this matter.
I have been reviewing the personal accounts shared by many of you regarding the inconsistencies within our current legal framework. These stories highlight the necessity of distinguishing between different types of offenses when determining long term consequences. My focus remains on advocating for a shift in policy that reflects these crucial differences in severity.
