Excessive speeding is a problem on Laurel Rd. Many people use Laurel Rd. as a cut through to access the retail shops along the 78 corridor. The issue has worsened since the installation of these shopping centers and will continue to as the Westfield Mall is currently under a major renovation and expansion. Last year on October 6, there was a fatality on Laurel Rd. due to excessive speeding. Thus far the City of Oceanside has done little to abate the problem. We cannot afford further injury or death due to reckless driving. I support installing permanent traffic calming measures along Laurel Rd.
Our objective is to collect 100 signatures to present at the Oceanside City Council meeting. We are targeting a date of 9/25, 10/2, or 10/16 to present our petition. This is being done in conjunction with asking for face to face meetings with Mayor Wood and each Council member. Please check this website for updates. The City Engineer has provided information as to how we enact this change. It will require support (in the form of signatures) of most of the residents.
