As students, faculty, or staff of East Tennessee State University and members of the Hispanic American Student Community Alliance student organization, we believe that the LCRC will be able to address the needs specific to this region. The Hispanic population is a rapidly increasing one. The isolation of this community cannot continue. In order to bridge the gap between the Hispanic and Non-Hispanic communities, there must be a cultural understanding of both. In order to do so, there must be research conducted in order to ameliorate this process. We believe that the LCRC will be able to accomplish this mission. We, the undersigned, are concerned students, faculty, and staff of East Tennessee State University who urge our leaders to act now to establish the Latino Center for Research and Culture and the Global Understanding Initiative.
