We are the fans of the Young and the Restless and we are scattered around the world. We transcend age, demographics, nationalities, races, and religious backgrounds. We are asking that you support the characters of Lily Winters and Cane Ashby. We have been supporters of this couple ever since they aired and have been ardent followers as we have watched their blooming romance and relationship grow from strength to strength. During the first year of their budding attraction and subsequent romance the airtime given to this couple has been disappointing compared to the airtime of other storylines. Nevertheless the storyline progressed and we the fans of Lily and Cane rallied around the characters by posting in and creating many forums, participating in polls and writing letters waiting for our hopes to be realized. Finally, it all came together for Valentine’s Day when the couple had their very first sexual encounter. Unfortunately we have realized however that there is an element that seeks to destroy this potential super couple. Over the past months and might we add throughout their relationship the obstacles that this couple has undergone has been like no other. There have been hurdles one after the other the latest a storyline that stretches the imagination of the oldest of soap opera viewers. The popularity of Lily and Cane (aka LANE) as well as the individual actor and actress has grown to enormous proportions and we the undersigned are very disappointed with the seemingly abrupt demise/end of their relationship. Everything that we have lobbied for in relation to this couple has seemingly been given to another character/actress. For some of us we have being watching and supporting The Young and the Restless ever since they aired (I know of viewers who even have the books), for others we have been watching for a couple of years and yet still there are others who just happened to turn on their televisions and saw the great chemistry existing between Lily and Cane and have become first time viewers of this great soap opera. We the undersigned must highlight the endearing qualities of the Lily and Cane storyline that keeps us coming back for more: 1. There is the obvious chemistry between the characters. 2. The honesty and romance that exists between the characters, they have definitely brought romance back to daytime. 3. To finally be able to see a potential super couple that is an interracial couple. This has been lacking in many soap operas and for many other soaps that have tried they have withdrawn from their efforts as if to say that such relationships do not exist in a 21st century world. Many of the viewers are ‘minorities’ and find this to be distasteful as they believe that the character of Lily has been taken from the Lily/Cane storyline because minorities should not be paired with or have a long term relationship with a leading Caucasian male. We have shown our support over the years for this soap opera which is evident in the ratings. We are now asking that you show us your audience support by dropping the current ‘love triangle, baby daddy drama’ storyline and reconnect the characters of Lily and Cane. We are also asking that your soap opera becomes the leader in setting the standard by proclaiming that love transcends color.
