Name: Marilyn Stults on Jan 24, 2011Comments: This Federal style house is one of the few remnants of the old "Bowery Lane" when its location was "out in the country." Not only is it charming, but it stands as a reminder of a vanished neighborhood, pre-dating the more "notorious" Bowery of the second half of the 19th Century. Even thught the building has been altered, enough of the original structure remains, including the wonderful gambrel roof, to let the viewer know that this house was probably originally owned by a person of means. Please don't let it be destroyed before we can learn more of its history. The East Village area has already lost so much of its past!Flag

Name: Suzannah B. Troy on Jan 24, 2011Comments: Mike Bloomberg and his socialite mega-millionaire city planner Amanda Burden on behalf other greedy ruthless pals want Wall Street and NYU to start at 14th Street and run down to Battery Park. The Bowery looks like a bad xerox of Dubai and Wall St. and the mass displacement continues. Stop Bloomberg and his Amanda the people's Burden.Flag

Name: Sally Young on Jan 24, 2011Comments: I did the research on 35 Cooper Square that eventually got the ball rolling on this house, and I am flabbergasted at how many people have joined in on wanting to save this house. When I first sent it to the LPC it was just me, and it then was turned down. I believe before that, GVSHP sent it without history, and it was turned down. So now it's a third turn down. Its history is incredible, not to mention it is a very charming old house just in itself, its Gambrel roof, intact dormer windows, double end chimney, and most likely Flemish Bond Masonry underneath the crushed stone, so popular beginning in the 1870's. I love Federal Houses, with their charm, and simplicity, and beautiful architecture. They remind us of a time we should still incorporate in our lives. We can, especially if these houses are saved. This should be a main priority in the history of not only our neighborhood and our city. Thank You to All Who Love and Support This House!!!!!Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jan 24, 2011Comments: There is no reason whatsoever for the razing of this historic building for the sake of slapping up yet another tired, useless, architectural abomination in the form of another hotel or NYU dorm. No one who lives in the East Village wants to see this important building destroyed.Flag

Name: Sean Sweeney on Jan 24, 2011Comments: The building appears relatively intact and unaltered. On the other hand, so many buildings in the Village area, even in landmark districts, have been altered from their original design. This delightful building is so well-preserved and its history so remarkable that I find it incumbent for the LPC to re-consider the previous denial for its designation as an Individual Landmark.Flag
