We,the undersigned, as alumni, visitors and supporters of the University of Lancaster, oppose the restructuring of the college bars currently in motion. We object strongly to the way that staff members have been treated during this process, and believe that it reflects badly on the University and its public image. We further believe that the college bars' primary purposes should be social, cultural and educational, and not as a means of generating revenue. We note this process as a further example of a long campaign of undermining a genuine college system at the University of Lancaster, and hence call upon the university to (i) halt the proposed restructuring of the college bars, (ii) avoid redundancies among bar staff, (iii) embark upon a genuine review of the college system at Lancaster, in consultation with alumni, visitors and supporters of the university, with a view to restoring a once (and deservedly) proud reputation.
