The Kent County Road Commission is planning to reduce Lamoreaux Drive from a four lane major connecting road, (Alpine Ave to West River Dr) down to a two lane road in order to accommodate seasonal recreational bicyclists wishing to connect to the White Pine Trail. Lamoreaux Drives current 4 lanes is now utilized by the most denseily populated areas in Alpine Township , Westgate subdivision, York Creek Apartments , and Alpine Slopes Apartment complex. It also has several residential curb cuts along with many small business lining the road. Both school and commuter busses frequently stop in both directions and at the rail road tracks several times per day. Reducing the current four lanes to two with a left turn lane will certainly cause major traffic back ups during morning and evening commutes especially during the school year when the majority of the weather would be too poor to utilize these bicycle lanes anyway. If you believe a Road Diet for Lamoreaux Drive is neither necessary nor prudent please sign this petition to let the Alpine Township Board along with the Kent County Road Commission know how the residents and business's feel regarding this project.
