Name: John Paul Balayon on May 3, 2006Company/School/Organization: abs-cbn foundation, inc.Comments: since 2001, we have expressly recognized the right of the awardees/claimants over 59-hectares of land inside the la mesa watershed. but in 2003, the MWSS commissioned a study on the possible effects/impacts of building housing units inside the la mesa watershed/reservation.in 2004, the National Hydraulics Research Center/UP College of Engineering came out with its official findings to the effect that there is no way that the proposed housing units can be allowed inside the watershed on the ground that there are no existing mitigating measures/technologies which can possibly arrest the adverse impacts, especially groundwater contamination, on the 700-hectare reservoir. we therefore propose that the housing site be relocated. in fact, the MWSS, which is the property owner, has offered another property DOUBLE THE SIZE of what these awardees are entitled to. we likewise call on the concerned government agencies, especially DENR/LLDA to refrain from issuing any ECC and/or permit/s to operate or licence/s for the proposed housing units based on the reason earlier cited. lastly, we call on everyone to help save the la mesa watershed, the last remaining forest of its size in metro manila, and one of the largest sources of drinking water for its 12 million inhabitants, likewise considered to be among the top three of the largest sources of safe drinking water in the whole of sout east asia. sign up be counted!Flag
