Comments: It is essential that young women in this community have a safe space, be able to take time out and explore their abilities and talents in their own time, without the constraints of other peoples' agendas. Although it is a struggle keeping the project together, it has been worth the effort when i have been tutoring young women in music and opening their worlds at their own pace. We need to be supported and listened to for the sake of our young people of today...who aren't .

Comments: Women only provision like LWP is essential for community development and women's autonomy - yet it is undervalued and undermined by local authorities and other funding bodies who don't recognise it's significance. Women are a community of identity/interest and as such deserve provision like LWP. Women still don't have equal pay; experience far more domestic abuse; rape convictions are at an all time low. Young women in particular are continually targetted by our media and experience negative body image and problems with self-esteem and believing in their own choices and aspirations. Please stop the closure of LWP and give women some respect! best wishes, Rachel Wild

Comments: It is vital that local women's centres that can respond to and support the needs of women in the area are properly supported by local and central government, as well as being a priority for other funders and trusts. Stop gap and project funding do not address the need that many women have for ongoing and properly resourced support provided by other women.

Comments: I am a resident of Lambeth and think that it is vital that a service like Lambeth Women's Project is funded. We live in a time in which the widespread belief is that we have achieved equality for women. A closer look at the statistics shows this is far from the case: at least 2 women a week are killed by their current or former partner, there are more lap dancing clubs than rape crisis centres, the gender pay gap is still to be closed etc. Women need a safe, supportive space which they can go to: to be listened to; to be understood and to be empowered. Women-only services are still very much needed and we should acknowledge the important work that they do.

Comments: A million women rise Saturday 8th March 2008 . we are marching and gathering for reasons such as this . the systematic violence agaist women by withdrawing funding from essential women only services that serve to empower and help in the healing and striving of women.

Comments: How shameful the Lambeth council are behaving. Under the new Gender Duty they must demonstrate that they are equal in their services for both woman and men. Long standing services such as the Lambeth Womon's Project should benefit from the new law......

Comments: As an ex service user I have personal experience of how the secure services are not going anywhere for the better for woman. We seem to be a minority and kept quiet with threats of increasing meds and seclusion. Then who will let you go back into the community-was a common jaunt. I must say the services for woman user of long detentions in secure is appauling and until they get the knowledge that it is not the buildings, fences etc that make womebn feel safe but the need to feel safe and carered for rather than contained. Unfortunately the care once back in the community is not much better and seems very hit and miss. The managers need to see past the professiopnal skills and see if they are capable of the skill to listen and .....nothing that is it.We live for years beionmg controled and some CPN seems to carry that attitude right into your home. There is a huge need for women users to be nursed with human TLC and just comon sense and not control and never letting a woman leabve her past alone. I made a huge decision 5-8 mths ago to discharge mysdelf after being in the systen for 22 yrs. I was goingthrougha very rough time physicall and the teamcould not handle me being allowed to make life threatening decisions. They could not handle me having control of my life .I left and stoppwed all meds and even though my physical health is rapidly deterioating -mentally I have never been so stable, I knew that i never needed thos drugs but have had ssedly professional carers continually telling me howe that will make me feel after so long you start to thing masybe I do feel that mayber it is the depression and psychosis returning -quick swallow the rainbow pill. But this time I was able to get past the first few weeks thatr I had read before hand are usually your body telling you need them. Medics now the symptoms and play on it. Women need these projects to give them the positive input they thrive and flourish and keep out of the systm that drains them off al that makes them the amazing strong women they are. Here is to us ALL that survive the so call care, Thatt is not a word I would use but hey maybe I seen things I would never believe a caring person could carry out. I could go on for hours but need to go. Please wether you have person al orfamilly or close ones in the system we all have a duty to fight with and by them but never for them unless asked, I say more usingthe ears for a positive use and less chity chat gets thrown at you,As long as we all try to do our best and never deliberately go out to hurt or get revenge. Caroline Hudson.

Comments: Women only spaces in the community are vital. It is our government's responsibility to make sure women's health needs, including mental health, are met and for many of us women only spaces are the only places this can happen. We deserve a space of our own.

Comments: I worked in Social Services in Lambeth for 35 years, and can testify to the overwelming need for this sort of support for abused and discriminated against women of many ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Also just the need for spaces to discuss how to take forward the issue (still) of unequal opportunities for women, especially in more deprived areas.
