I D. Moore am sending this letter on behalf of the current summer 2014 internship 1 students. We would like to advocate for our classmate and friend Rosemary Delgado. Rose has been belittled and mistreated by her site supervisor for several weeks with no real advocacy from our instructor Deborah Contreras-Tadych. She has been treated like a child or less than a person in my opinion. It is very hurtful to learn that after enduring this treatment for many weeks, Rose was told by our instructor that she had to stay because she signed a contract. After Debbie told her this, she agreed to stay at the site, with hopes that things would get better; however, they only got worse. She has shared stories to Debbie and the class about the horrific treatment while at this site. We have heard stories about permission being required to use the bathroom and leave any room. She has been given strict instructions from her supervisor not to ask other employees for assistance. She went on a different level, and her supervisor went to following her, her supervisor has taken face to face hours away from her for no justifiable reason, and much more. Despite how her current supervisor may feel about Rose, her character is evident based on her 4.0 cumulative GPA at Lakeland College, and her exceptional evaluations during her practicum experience last semester. We feel that all of Rose hours should be counted, as Lakeland does not have policies stating that a student must retake internship 1 if the supervisor doesn’t feel that they should move on. We also feel that there may be some ethical issues going on due to our instructor being working colleagues with the supervisor. Rose has expressed her feelings and concerns in each one of her journals this semester, with again no advocacy taking place. If we will not be advocated for as students, then we are requesting that we receive a new instructor for internship 2. Attached is a petition from the students who are currently taking internship 1 with Deborah Contreras-Tadych. You will additional concerns/reasoning from some of the students listed below. If a new instructor cannot be granted, we would like take Internship 2 at a different location.
