I am very concerned for students at Nevin Avenue Elementary School. Students who are receiving special education services under the eligibility of Speech and Language Services are currently not being serviced at our school. We have been in the new 2012/2013 school session since August 14, 2012, and as of today we have yet to have a service provider come and service our students. There has been several attempts made on the behalf of our school to contact the Speech and Language department at the District, but there hasn't been any progress made on their behalf. These actions are out of compliance with the IDEA and with LAUSD Special Education Policies and Procedures. I am very concerned with the academic impact that this is having on our students. Our students our entitled to a free and appropriate education per their IEP and this is definitely inappropriate. These students will benefit tremendously from the exercises and strategies that a Speech Therapist is trained to do. I'm petitioning that LAUSD provide our students with a Speech and Language provider immediately, to give them the appropriate services that would enhance growth in their speech and academic performances.
