Name: Caitriona Reed on Feb 6, 2013Comments: I am surprised and somewhat shocked that the LA Times is so lacking in the sort of cultural sensitivity that is now second-nature to other media institutions. The inappropriate use of pronouns may not seem to be a big deal, but it is such a transparent indicator of underlying attitudes and presuppositions, that it becomes a huge indicator that the Times is still locked in outdated attitudes that actually perpetuate the suffering of a particularly disadvantaged minority. Thanks for listening.Flag

I have many friends that identify as trans or gender non conforming and this article was one of the MOST offensive I've seen recently. Please find some respect and treat these people with dignity. It costs you NOTHING.Flag

Name: Valerie Spencer on Feb 7, 2013Comments: It is important that mass media is sensitive to transgender communities and share the full contextual perspectives of our issues beyond sensationalism. Your artical was both unkind and filled with urban mythes and legends about our community. It was derogatory and dehumanizing. If this manner of "journalism" continues, I will withdraw my readership and urge my friends and relatives to do the same.Flag

Name: Danielle Askini on Feb 7, 2013Comments: I was so deeply disappointed to see such a well respected paper print such a shoddy hit piece of journalism. This article is exceptionally defaming of Trans women. You absolutely must print a retraction immediately, apologize, and invite GLAAD to do a media training with your staff and editors. Completely unacceptable.Flag
