Name: Teresa Buckshot on Dec 15, 2005State: CACountry: CAComments: I also would like to have access to community flyers. When I asked the Band Manager and Assistant Band Manager to set up some type of system so that off reserve members could have access to community members, the reply I received frin the Ass. Band Manger was "that's education's responsiblity, talk to Gilbert about it, and the other response from the Band Manager was "we don't do that, flyers are for community members only". Well I am a community member and I feel the responses I received were unprofessional.Flag

Name: Verity Printup on Dec 15, 2005State:Country: CAComments: I am not a Band member, due to Bill C-31. However, as a member of the community - and someone whose family are all members, most of which live off-reserve - this is a request I wholly support. It is time to stop following the pigeonhole tactics of Indian Affairs, by largely recognizing only those living on-reserve (which I suggest is a form of segregation). The "urban Indian" has valid concerns which can be shared with others to help bridge the gap between those living on and off rez, so that there is less exclusivity between the two. It helps strengthen ties to the community for the "urban Indian", gives a new voice, and moves away from the rift-and-divide pattern of the government by adding an off-rez rep to the council.Flag
