The University of Kansas has a rich history of both academics and athletics. We believe that the University should sponsor a men's soccer program because the state has a significant number of talented players that participate at the high school level but are forced to either give up the game, participate at junior colleges or go out of state to play soccer at the college level. KU has had a strong intramural soccer program in recent years and it is our belief that if given the opportunity to play at the NCAA level, the team would be competitive with already existing soccer programs. The university already has facilities for a team in place because of their sponsorship of a women's team, so that should not be an issue. Soccer is the world's game and there is a large following of the sport among the students and there is plenty of interest to support a varsity team which is one of the 3 prongs in title IX. KU would be one of the few D1 teams in a multiple state area, so recruiting the midwest would be fairly easy and inexpensive which is a big factor for non revenue sports.
