My group and I for a class project decided to form a petition against the campus phone book and directory. We feel that the information provided as a default setting is unnecessary and that we, as students, should have the option on whether or not we wish to provide our information to be viewed by all. We are petitioning the campus phone book because of the information it gives out. We feel that the students should be able to decide what is shown in the phone book initially, instead of their information being submitted as a default setting.
The phone book gives out information such as: permanent address, current address, phone number, email address, and majors and minors. Who needs to know all of that information about a student? Did you know that the option the school gives you to hide your information is by signing the Non-Disclosure form? Did you also know that this limits you to viewing your own information, as well as not allowing your name to be seen in the graduation pamphlet?
