The influence of Kraftwerk is surpassed by few. They laid the foundation not only for electronic music, but also for the beats in hip hop. In recent years bands as U2 and Coldplay have made covers of Kraftwerk songs. The Polar Music Prize (www.polarmusicprize.com) was founded in 1989 by the late Stig "Stikkan" Anderson, one of the true greats in the history of popular music. As the publisher, lyricist and manager of ABBA, he played a key role in their enormous success. The Polar Music Prize is one of the most prestigious and unique music prizes in the world, crossing over musical boundaries and awarded to individuals, groups and institutions in recognition of exceptional achievements. Robert Moog and Karlheinz Stockhausen got the prize in 2001. Those two laid the foundation for Kraftwerk. After 40 years of service, we all can agree that Kraftwerk stands for "exceptional achievements and with the departure of Florian Schneider from the group it is now time to give the Polar Music Prize to Ralf Hûtter and Florian Schneider
