To: Mr. Don Benuska, U.S. Postmaster, Gwinn, Michigan We the undersigned non-residents of KI Sawyer are grateful for your provision of postal services to KI Sawyer residents since the Airforce base closure and now acknowledge along with KI Sawyer that they are building back and are in need of a U.S. postal branch location that fully serves their expanding community. As a non-resident, we agree with KI Sawyer that the Gwinn post office is too far from the KI Sawyer residential community to meet the increasing demands of a growing population that is building back to prior military base levels, at that time there was a post office for KI Sawyer residents. During the winter months when carrier service is frequently interrupted for 1 or more days due to limited access to mail boxes KI Sawyer residents do not have reasonable options for obtaining the mail on a daily basis. We think they should have access and consistent services for delivery or retrieval of their mail. Delay of delivery on many occasions, especially in the winter, causes mail to be delivered and picked-up after 4 or 5 p.m. which exceeds the normal business day. The designated KI Sawyer location in Gwinn, Michigan does not benefit any Sawyer businesses in the community since it is at least nine miles from KI Sawyer businesses. We fully support the efforts of KI Sawyer residents, businesses, and community leaders who have agreed that a postal branch outlet location closer to KI Sawyer is a more suitable solution for postal service in KI Sawyer. Listed below are reasons why a location along or close to Avenue A would better serve all of their community needs. -It is in the communities most popular business and community area including the West Branch Community Center which is a highly visible meeting location with rented office space. -It is a main public transportation route. -It is central to daily chores since it is close to the nearby elementary school, childcare centers, veterinary services, shopping areas, utility services and it is close to the airport. -It is easily accessible to most residential neighborhoods and eliminates a forty-minute round-trip drive for access to a postal box facility as well as postal counter service. -It provides low-income, elderly and those without Internet or computer access to complete their postal transaction at a nearby postal counter. -It is located between M-553 and 94. The non-residents of KI Sawyer express their hope that the Post Office will continue to work with the community of KI Sawyer in pursuing a service branch location. Thank you for your considerations. Sincerely, The Undersigned:
