'You, Me & the Climate' are vehemently opposed to the opening of a new coal fired power plant at Kingsnorth in Kent by E-ON. It is a regressive step reverting to Victorian technologies as coal is the most polluting natural resource and goes completely in the face of the government's promise to cut carbon emissions by 20% by 2020. Time is running out. Scientists predict that by 2015 our global carbon emissions need to stabilise to save the catostophic two degree temperature rise of our planet. There is just a tiny window to prevent the continuing exacerbation of climate changen and we must do all in power to stop it. 'You, Me & the Climate' wants to impress upon the government, E-ON, and the public, the urgency we feel is necessary to act on this issue. Reopening Kingsnorth sets a dangerous precedent for the future of energy production in the United Kingdom and creates a legacy for our children that they won't forgive us for. We want to encourage the government to work hard with big businesses to create jobs through green technologies in newly created green industries. Renewable energy sources such as hydroelectric power, solar power or wind farms significantly reduce carbon emissions and the polluting impact on the environment. We cannot negotiate with countries like China and India and dictate how they should respond to the climate change crisis when the British government does not lead by example. "This National Trust programme gives young people the skills and confidence to act on issues in their local community, however the National Trust does not take responsibility for local and regional issues the young people develop and therefore the views and actions of You, Me and The Climate young representatives does not necessarily reflect those of The National Trust".

'You, Me & the Climate' (YOMAC) is a youth driven organisastion of 15 -21 year olds from all over the UK dedicated to actively seeking action on climate change in their region. We are facilitated by the National Trust who are already feeling the effects of climate change on their properties, the land they own and on the areas of coastline they protect. Whilst the Natiomal Trust does much to provide young people with the skills that can lead them to co-ordinate local action in their areas, they are not specifically behing this particular campaign.
