Kickstart the Electric Car
The electric car has two major flaws: limited range and high cost. These reasons have prevented the electric car from competing against the gasoline motor vehicle.
By signing this petition I acknowledge that I am aware of this problem but I want to change it. I am in favor of the United States government imposing a "Kickstart Tax" of 3 cents on every gallon of gasoline. I desire for all proceeds from the Kickstart Tax to be used to lower the cost of electric vehicles. I am aware that this 3 cent tax will cost the average American about $20 per year and that the earned revenue will likely reduce the average cost of all electric powered motor vehicles by between $7,000 and $20,000. I feel that this is a small price to pay for the benefit of kickstarting the electric car market and reducing the United States' dependency on foreign oil.
