Stop the Kensington Market Starbucks
Starbucks wants to open in the centre of Kensington Market, to compete with the local coffee shops. One of the oldest fruit stand in the corner of Augusta and Nassau closed few weeks ago, and is now available for rent. This would be the first major chain visible on this street for 100 years, and will change Kensington Market forever. There are several independent coffee shops that sell strong espresso within few blocks: ideal, moonbean, louis, and others.. Kensington Market is special. As soon as all the regular chains move in, it will not be special anymore. Today, it is still a unique place where it appears as if time stopped - strangely located in the middle of trendy and modern Toronto. Large chains can afford to lose money for few years, compete unfairly with local shops, etc. We know the process, but people who like Kensington like to keep it special (even if they don't live there anymore). It is important that people know what's happening, so that their voices can be heard. Any thought on the subject are welcomed. SIGN THE PETITION AND JOIN the facebook group to show your support.
