It is asking far too much to expect JC's or First-Year counselors to "police" freshman. As a JC let me say that we do not need to be paid, RA's should not be paid either, but CRA's are an integral important part of our commons.Flag

One of the missions of the Commons system is to create a working relationship between all levels of the college, from the students to the higher administration. Clearly, the bond of communication in this instance has broken and must be mended.Flag

Name: Brittany McAdams on Mar 15, 2007Comments: I FULLY support the intentions of this petition. I am a VERY strong believer in the strength of the ResLife staff, specifically the CRA positions. I am extremely displeased that these decisions were made without consulting the ResLife Staff and I am also very upset that they are cutting back on the number of CRAs, specifically in freshmen housing such as Battel. I know the value of the CRA job and the amount of work they do. I do not feel as though that is something that can be placed on first-year counselors who are full-time students with extra-curricular activities and friends of their own. I think it is unfair to place that amount of responsibility on these students because I feel it places them in a position of having to compromise other things that are important to them (i.e. clubs, sports, school work and friends). To my understanding, a much more practical solution would be to cut back on the number of RAs in the dorms. I personally feel as though the RAs are not effective, especially in upper-classmen housing. I urge the administration to re-think their decision and to communicate with the Commons' staff in the meantime.Flag
