According to our hometown newspaper, The Vindicator, in an article dated July 9th, 2011, one of the teachers at our high school is trying to get our mascot changed. Quoting the article by Elise Franco, "Stacy Madison, a math teacher at Canfield High School, recently started gathering signatures for a petition to change Canfield school district’s mascot, the cardinal, to a black squirrel." As an alumni of this school district, I feel that ushering in a new era to the hardworking Canfield faculty, students and parents, is important. However, in order to ensure our continued success in the future, I do not feel that changing the mascot is the way to go about it. I have decided to start this counter-petition to see that our tradition stays. The Canfield High School and Cardinal Mooney High School have co-existed with the same mascot for years. If you feel that the Canfield High School's mascot should remain our mascot, please take the time to sign it.
