STUART AND GINA HYDE | I THINK IT'S REALLY A POOR IDEA TO BUILD ON FLOODPLAINS. I WOULD MUCH RATHER DRIVE TO RODENT PARK OCCASIONALLY TO COMPROMISE MYSELF BY ACTUALLY BUYING SOMETHING FROM A CORPORATE, ETHICALLY DEVOID CHAIN STORE. WE TRY TO EITHER SHOP MOM AND POP OR AT GARAGE SALES[REUSE]. ALSO THE PEOPLE ARE FRIENDLIER, MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE AND THE SELECTION IS MUCH BETTER AND MORE DIVERSE. WHAT WE SHOULD DO INSTEAD IS WORRY ABOUT FILLING THE RAPIDLY INCREASING NUMBER OF VACANCIES IN OUR DOWNTOWN AREA. I ACTUALLY AM NOT AWARE IF THIS DEVELOPEMENT INCLUDES THE FAIRGROUNDS, BUT IF IT DOES, I'M ALSO AGAINST IT FOR THAT REASON. HOW COULD WE EVEN THINK OF REPLACEING AN HISTORIC JOY LIKE OUR FAIR [I BELIEVE IT HAS BEEN IN THAT LOCATION SINCE 1937] OR OUR WONDERFUL CLASSIC SPEEDWAY THAT HAS BEEN IN THE SAME PLACE SINCE 1960! THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WY WE MOVED HERE TO BEGIN WITH. THE HISTORY AND SMALL TOWN ASPECT OF THIS WONDERFUL, UNIQUE PLACE ON THIS PLANET.

Barbara Bacciocco | Any way we can tear down the development at the end of Petaluma Blvd. South and get the hillside back? That is one ugly site! Not to mention the additional traffic. Our little town has become a traffic nightmare. It's atrocious.

Anne Wurr | I am a senior who relies on exercising at the Petaluma Swim Center for my health, so any development around this fine Olympic swimming pool should take into consideration air quality, traffic circulation, and parking and safety for youthful as well as elderly swimmers. Traffic on Washington Street is already impacted; big box stores attracting out-of-town shoppers would be inappropriate near the library and swim center.

Hilda Jobson | The City/Parks and Rec have done little to make improvements to the pool in the past 20 years. Isn't it time the City did something for the swimmers just as they have done for the bicyclists? Swimming has been proven to be the best exercise for all ages!

Already trying to move from East to West can take up to a half hour -- or longer! Try to get across the Washington St overpass at rush hour. You can't do it in a reasonable amount of time. I have a child that goes to McKinley -- developing that area of town will increase traffic to a parking lot. We have big chains up and down 101 -- keep Petaluma as simple as possible. Grow local merchants and keep 'em strong. |

julie carr | We are home owners in Petaluma because of the old town charm and historic value of west Petaluma. We are in agreement with fiscal growth but are concerned regarding big box store overload for such a small town.
