Removing the wreckers would be detrimental to so many people in the local community who simply can't afford new parts. In older vehicles, parts become obsolete and going to a wreckers becomes the only way of getting parts for your vehicle. Also, if your car needs a part its highly likely it cant be driven so going to Cairns can end up an expensive exercise (often in futility if you can't find a wrecker with the part you need).
