Comments: As a TDSB teacher using Macs and PCs at school and home for over 15 years, I feel it is extremely important to continue supporting the Mac environment. Apple has been a much more reliable, productive and economical platform to use both at home and school during that time. Initial cost may appear greater but given the performance and longevity of Macs I believe they are actually cheaper in the long term.

Comments: Windows are in fAct more proprietary in their technology than Macs. Mac OS X is based on BSD Unix which is more stable and open than Windows. OS X is more seamlessly integrated into the hardware because both are made by Apple. The total cost of ownership and life cycle for Apple computers is both better and longer.

Comments: How incredibly short sighted! WIth all the innovation that has been seeing from Apple these days, it's unbelievable that a body would make this decision to the detriment of our children. Entire schools are now adopting the iPad because of it's cutting edge technology while Microsoft tries to hobble together their existing quagmire. All that aside, has anybody even discussed the fact that Macs can boot in Windows as well as OS X for the Mac? Why in the world would you buy into a system that provides only one experience when you could buy into a system that provides 2 systems for the price of one? Obviously, someone HASN'T done their homework and it's not our kids!

Comments: Obviously, whomever made this decision isn't aware of the greater network security Macs offer. Also, current Macs natively boot Windows, Linux, and OSX operating systems. Why not get a computer that can run all of the 3 mainstream operating systems of the future? Doesn't seem logical at all, but then again, I'm not surprised. Most IT professionals don't know Macs, so in order to protect their jobs, they do whatever they can to keep them out of their job descriptions.

Comments: Vision Of Hope? I'd like to believe it, I really do. What credibility does such a message hope, Dr. Chris Spence, when an extremely productive set of tools for teachers to use to help their students (TEL) has been eliminated and replacec by the ambitious but extremely cumbersome and extremely slow Academic Workspace? For a vision to be embraced, credibility must be earned. This single act (of eliminating TEL), I am genuinely concerned, will undo all the wonderful goals that are underway.

Comments: I find that the Dell computers in my classrooms are constantly inoperable and this frustrates me and definitely my students for then they cannot use them. I have not had a problem with any Macs in the computer lab. They never seem to crash! Put Macs into the classrooms!!!

Comments: The Mac issue is very similar to the TEL issue. The TDSB IT staff are the tail wagging the dog! TEL is a much more effective and efficient tool than AW is. The IT staff starved it by not installing recent software, and not providing adequate storage space (funny how AW now provides so much more space... that's an IT issue not a TEL issue). The IT group is marching to the drumbeat of Microsoft - pushing Windows, Exchange, and Sharepoint down everyones' throats. Who will stop this madness? Chris????

Comments: Kids love to learn on Macs. I have worked on many creative digital projects with students and they love working on Macs. I believe that Macs are an essential ingredient of every TDSB school. Apple computers are best for the creative digital arts and are the standard platform in many industries. It is unfair to deny our students access to these invaluable tools.
