Name: Michelle Starratt on Sep 24, 2008Comments: This is my youngest childs last year at Kaiser. While a closure of this school would likley happen after we have left (and not affect my family) it would still be a devestating loss for the district as a whole. This is a school that takes kids from all over Oakland - with a socio economic diversity that should be the districts goal for all schools in Oakland. Please keep Kaiser off the closure list!Flag

Parents volunteer at Kaiser, we see it is working. We are an example that should be studied and followed. If it is not broken, why fix it Do not close Kaiser.Flag

Name: Terry McGlynn on Sep 24, 2008Comments: Small schools are extremely important to the best outcomes for children. The realy bright, stright a student will do fine anywhere and the child with so many difficulties and red flags will demand the extra attention, but the children in the middle who could be supported in success or fall through the cracks will get the attention they need to be inspired in a small school. In large schools they definitely fall through the cracks and you will lose more and more children.Flag

Name: Chris Moisenco on Sep 24, 2008Comments: I am a parent of a first grade student at Kaiser. We chose Kaiser because of its mission statement, its size, the diversity and parent involvement. It would be counter-productive to close a school with such a high satisfaction rating from parents.Flag

Name: Steven Runyon on Sep 25, 2008Comments: I am extremely upset by the idea that OUSD would even consider closing Kaiser Elementary. I chose Kaiser for my daughter, Katelin, because I believe that it offered the best environment to promote educational success for my daughter, and that many of the larger schools in Oakland do not provide the attention and resources that my daughter needs to succeed.Flag

Name: Jana Lane on Sep 25, 2008Comments: Schools exist to educate children and young people in community. They are being prepared to take their places as adults in our society. Kaiser is clearly very successful in fulfilling this mission. Closing Kaiser would be be so destructive it is unthinkable. I would say all these same things about Burkhalter.Flag

Name: Wayne Samdahl on Sep 25, 2008Comments: We are new to Kaiser this year. We are very impressed by the dedication of the staff and principal. We looked at several schools in Oakland and turned down Chabot because we felt that the smaller school offered the better opportunity and more personal attention. Our son is an English language learner. Please keep this great school open. It is certainly one of the brightest spots in the Oakland Unified School district.Flag

Name: Leticia Avalos on Sep 25, 2008Comments: Kaiser Elementary was our first choice school for our daughter not only because of its high educational standards and commitments but also for its diversity of students, be it race, color, and straight, gay and lesbian families . Our daughter has come to learn and appreciate the differences in those around us. Do not take this invaluable teaching tool from our children.Flag
