Name: Julia Johnson Baker on Aug 23, 2008Comments: I think it would be another sad story of the struggle of youth, particularly young graduates, to have this program discontinued. It offers an amazing experience for a cultural, as well as skills exchange. It also gives current graduates the chance to get their feet in the water in ways above and beyond anything offered within Canada. I have attributed my participation in this program to the path my life has taken and I would find it a grave disapointment that others cannot find the same. It is a program that for me, gave me great pride in my government in the fact that they could offer such an opportunity to youth. It showed me they CARED about youth and wanted to help.Flag

This well-established program has given thousands of youth and young professionals valuable learning opportunities abroad. Divesting from this program undermines our commitment as Canadians to cross-cultural understanding which comes through experience.Flag

Abandoning this program will reflect on Canada's commitment to development abroad, unduly disadvantage committed graduates in the discipline, and place further strain on CIDA in finding qualified recruits.Flag

Canada has prided itself on being a leader in Human Rights, in Peace and Security, and in Foreign Affairs-this recent development makes this claim laughable.Flag

Name: Rosi on Aug 25, 2008Comments: I would see how Canada's international reputation and profile will suffer if the CIDA's international internship program (IYIP) for young graduates is canceled. I am sure we will feel the consequences in the years to come. So now is the time to make a decision if favour of it. It is only wise nations that invest in their young generation. Not to mention that this is the best of young generationFlag

There is no doubt in my mind that it would have been extremely difficult for me to get that crucial first experience were it not for IYIP, and I do not think I would work where I work now without the programme. Not only is this an excellent career and employment programme, but it contributes tremendously to Canada's respect and recognition around the world. Go anywhere in Africa and you will see young Canadians doing internships, working with people from all cultures and so forth. These people are a real presence, and it is not a coincidence, it is obviously because we have had this great programme for years.Flag
