Name: Anonymous on Aug 22, 2008Comments: Why not transform it from a program into its own institute If you really don't want to fund it, then at least give it a chance to find other means before bringing the hammer down. If the sentiments expressed in the Embassy article are widespread, there might be the opportunity to supplement public funds with other funding from other sources.Flag

Name: Jennifer Butterfield on Aug 22, 2008Comments: This program is an invaluable opportunity for students of International Relations and Political Affairs to gain exposure to the work conducted by the Canadian International Development Agency. As an opportunity for future employment, and in such a highly competitive field, this program must be continued.Flag

Name: Lee Bowman on Aug 22, 2008Comments: - Canadians have always taken pride, myself included, in our country's international reputation. The elimination of IYIP is limiting our future leaders an opportunity to gain the understanding other cultures necessary to form intelligent policies, and forge diplomatic relations. I believe the loss of IYIP will be a step backward for Canada's international reputation.Flag

Name: Craig Damian Smith on Aug 22, 2008Comments: There is little to no opportunity in the Canadian job market for international development work or work related to international relations. Ending the CIDA YIP is short-sighted and will only lead to further drain of talent from Canada's pool of new graduates. The Conservative government is proving itself to have a distinct lack of long term vision.Flag

Name: Ramandeep Toor on Aug 23, 2008Comments: As a current master's student in infectious diseases I was hoping to apply to the internship program for 2009-2010, but hearing this news makes me very upset! International development is so important to not only Canada's international relations but also to the world. It is difficult for young professionals, who are already in financial debt, to gain practical international experience which does not cost them a fortune. I completely support this petition, not only as a Canadian, but as an avid global citizen!Flag
