The petition
In 2008 the Issaquah School District will conduct a district-wide review of its schools' attendance boundaries. In view of this, our community is calling upon the district to ensure that Grand Ridge Elementary School remains open to all students who live in the Issaquah Highlands.
From its beginning, the vision that guided the development of Issaquah Highlands was designed with an important goal in mind: ensuring that its residents can live, work, learn, shop and play - all in the same community. A key component of that vision is Grand Ridge Elementary School, centrally located in the community and within walking distance (roughly a mile) from all residences. In fact, the school district considers "Walking Buses" the official transportation to and from the school.
If the attendance boundaries for Grand Ridge are changed, some of the youngest students in our community may have to start riding buses or commuting to schools outside the community. This would impact our community with unnecessary traffic, increased environmental concerns and add risk to the welfare of our children.
By signing this petition, we are registering our support for keeping Grand Ridge Elementary a community-based school, available to all students living in Issaquah Highlands.
