| 151 | Cindy | This is just not a good choice for renaming. The current name is practical and an oft-used landmark. |
| 152 | Anonymous | Please consider keeping the history of our community intact by NOT renaming Interstate Ave. I encourage our community to celebrate the influence of such leaders as C. Chavez in a different manner - perhaps an art piece in one of our community parks, a mural on one of our public buildings - similar to the one being completed on Southern Interstate Ave - or special school programs to promote awareness.
The renaming of Portland Blvd to Rosa Parks Way was not done with the full support of the community. I often here people remarking negatively about Rosa Parks now, which is very unfortunate and counter to the spirit of the change. Please don’t make the same mistake with C. Chavez and Interstate Ave.
Thank you. |

| 154 | Don Hinrichs | The city has an established procedure for changing street names that allows all parties to be heard fairly. In refusing to follow that procedure, the city hopes to change the name before any one can stop them. This isn't about Cesar Chavez, it's about City Hall running roughshod over its citizens. |
| 155 | Nick Parsons | I am petitoning to keep Interstate Ave its present name |
| 156 | Stacia Zabadal | If your going to rename something, how about Killingsworth. |

| 161 | Joan Gray | Stop changing history...It is not like we are not having new streets & bridges needing names..OK?..Or create a city square or park,..something really nice to honor Chavez....But stop taking over our history to make it your own....

| 167 | Steve Flagg | Please stop the process of renaming Interstate Avenue. There is no need to rename the street, it is a move that will diminish the historic value of the street, and the vast majority of the people in the Interstate Corridor don't want it. We feel that we have been repeatedly run over by the City, first with Light Rail after voting it down repeatedly, then by the clandestine renaming of Portland Blvd. Changing the name of Interstate Avenue to satisfy a small minority of the residents of the area is the last straw. We realize that the mayor has nothing to lose by acting against the will of the residents of North Portland, but I am dismayed that the person I had spotted as a future mayor has rolled over to prove his liberal bona fides.
Please stop this idiocy. |

| 169 | Anonymous | Leave the history of Interstate intact! Do not step on the memories and hearts of so many of us long time residents! I speak in behalf of the elderly in this grand neighborhood who do not have access to the Internet as well! |
| 170 | KC and Julie Rawls | We are very much against the strong arm tactics of City Council, Serena Cruz and others in renaming our central street. The way this entire thing has been handled is a travesty of public outreach and public participation. North Portland will remember this outrage for a long time. |

| 177 | Anonymous | PLEASE do not vote this coming Thursday on whether to rename Interstate Avenue Cesar Chavez Boulevard. PLEASE have the courage to continue the process of finding an appropriate street to rename after Chavez (and it may turn out to be Interstate Avenue when all is said and done--I realize that). PLEASE keep this issue on your city council agenda until next July as you originally planned, in order to work out a compromise with the residents of Portland, Hispanic and non Hispanic alike. The issue is just too divisive to quickly make a decision, especially after the work some of the Commissioners have already done towards defusing a really nasty situation. |
| 178 | Rodrigo Hulse | I grew up in a bilingual and bicultural family. My mother is originally from El Salvador. I have nothing against Cesar Chavez. I do have a problem with the existing law being side stepped yet again to subvert the will of the community. I live two blocks off Interstate in the overlook area. |
