Lelio MontagnoliKeep Interstate Interstate! Potter, stay out of our part of town!
Karla WhiteInterstate Ave. is historic! The money should be better spent in our schools. Like a C. Chavez scholarship.

Pamela PerryThere are a number of significant ways in which we can honor this man; cultural center, school, library, etc. - Not to change the name of an area already struggling to suceed as a business district.
Susan LandauerNorth Portland does not want to be labeled as a place where only poor people live. We have Rosa Parks Way, and we honor her memory. Let's go to another part of town to honor Cesar Chavez, preferably somewhere that won't suffer by being branded as a place where minorities live because they can't afford to rent or buy elsewhere
Scott RingsageI strongly oppose the changing of Interstate Blvd to C. Chavez. I oppose it being changed to anything else. It should always remain as it is.
Jean Stoll
Jan GrimesEnough already with the name changes, esp to major thoroughfares. The impact to businesses alone is too great to be undertaken so lightly and so frequently. Our neighborhood hasn't had time yet to acclimate to the Portland Blvd name change. Stop!
heather harrison
tonya robinsonI work on Interstate ave @ Kaiser Permanente and this name change will cost businesses ALOT of money, business cards will need changed as well as confuse the hell out of PDX visitors. (finding their oncology clinic for out of towners for example!)
trevor beardplease do not rename any more of our streets in North Portland. Union ave, Portland Blvd, and Interstate ave are history around here. Rename PIR or Portland Meadows or something, Not the streets that made this area tick.
RuthI am a lifelong resident of Portland and I do not support the name change for Interstate. It is a historical name, regardless of whether it is a person's name or not. North Portland has had to put up with too many changes in the last few years. How about some of those less diverse neighborhoods on the west side which need reminding of the diversity of our city.
Chip StarrDo not change Interstate Ave, help keep the history intact. Hoew about renaming Cully Blvd instead
AnonymousNeedless expense for business owners. Why doesn't the City, instead, spend funds to erect a memorial for influential latinos that have impacted Portland?
Tom SzymanskiI believe there are many individuals that greatly contributed to the Oregon and United States, and who deserve to be honored by naming street after them. A few examples: - Douglas Engelbart (Oregonian) - co-inventor of the modern computer design - Dr. Jonas Salk - inventor of Polio vaccine - Dr. Robert K. Jarvik - inventor of artificial heart - Casimir Pulaski - American-Polish general who helped to win US independence. - Charles Floyd - diary-writing member of Lewis and Clark expedition who paid with his life for the discoveries in the west The list goes on.... All these people deserve to have a street named after them well ahead of Cesar Chavez. Naming the historic Interstate Avenue after an activist for group of people many of whom violated the United States law by trespassing the country borders defies the law-abiding spirit of our nation, not to mention the common sense. As a member of the community whose residence has been established on the Interstate Avenue for many decades I want the name of our street to be either preserved, or to be renamed to something that reflects the values all Americans can identify with. In these politically charged times, choosing a polarizing name like Chavez does nothing to build the national consensus and unity.
Karla WhiteI want Interstate Ave to remain! It's historic in itself. We small businesses have worked HARD to clean up Interstate Ave. and deserve to be heard and appreciated by leaving it Interstate Ave
Larry WhiteAs a business owner I do not want Interstate ave. name change as it would be expensive for me and confusing for my customers when trying to get directions. Please listen to the residents and business owners in our area, not from other area's.

Shirlene VanegasPlease keep Interstate Ave's historic name.
JordanThere is absolutely no reason to change the name of Interstate. It's not necessary, and it shouldn't happen.
Marci Ray WagnerPlease keep Portland's history
Chris M. WagnerDo not change Interstate Ave!
Ryland and Brittany MooreAs aN. Portland residents in the Overlook neighborhood, we feel that changing Interstate Avenue to Cesar Chavez Blvd. is not the best or right way to honor such an amazing individual who has done so much. For a leader who is so well regarded in bringing diverse groups together, all this renaming process has done is divide people and pit groups against each other. Coupled with the fact that Chavez had remote, at best, ties to Oregon and with the deep-rooted history that Interstate Avenue maintains, changing the name would be a travesty. The City Council already went behind the backs of the citizens of North Portland and greater PDX by renaming Portland Blvd. (the only street in the entire city with the city's namesake). Mayor Potter is a lame duck mayor as he is on his way out and not planning to run for re-election. Other City Council members will be running though so watch those individuals closely. Let's not allow this to happen to Interstate Avenue and find an alternative and better way of honoring an amazing individual.
AnonymousThere are many ways to honor Cesar Chavez including naming a new street, another school, library or park after him.
Anonymousok first of all I am IN FAVOR of the street name change, you all are talking about "oh Interstate is so historic" ok maybe it is. ITS TIME FOR A CHANGE! I WANT TO WALK DOWN "CESAR E. CHAVEZ BLVD." with my head held up higher knowing that I have something to be proud of. In some way that my culture is being represented in. THANKS
Dave MansfieldI have lived in NE Portland all my life (58 yrs) and for the past 35 years in the Concordia Neighborhood. I am not in favor of renaming streets in Portland just to be PC. I agree with another petitioner, put the money into a scholarship program.
BRAD NESSI'm Nowegian and am a twenty year resident of a 100 year old home built by Norwegian immigrants in what was the Norwegian neighborhood of Humbolt. Nothing would thrill me more than to have Interstate Av renamed after the great Norwegian artist Edvard Munch! You know Munch, he painted "The Scream". So why not, he was a cultural hero to all the Scandinavians that populated lower Interstate for over 70 years! If this were to happen I'm sure there would be opposition to such a big change. But what I'm also sure of is that I would not refer to my opposition as "Racists" for their point of view. Changing the name of any street is a big deal and affects a lot of people and there is going to be big opposition to what ever the name might be. Refering to dissenting points of veiw as "racist" is a cheap and easy way to put down your opponents.
AnonymousKeep Interstate Ave the same! Change Rosa Parks back to Portland Blvd!!
AnonymousWhats next??? Change Sandy Blvd to Ahmad Rashool Aawkminijad??? After all - THIS IS OREGON- Land of the Liberal -everybody should be represented. DO NOT CHANGE INTERSTATE AVE!
Robert EscuderoPolitical correctness is a terrible reason to go about changing street names or other geographic locations with an important history behind those names. The City Counsel should be ashamed for trying to pander to special interest groups in the name of political correctness.
AnonymousPlease leave Interstate Avenue as it is

AnonymousHey, good job racist idiots. Simple people with simple minds fear change.
Lynn ButlerI was born and raised near Interstate Avenue almost 50 years ago. My first job was on Interstate Avenue at the Lumberjack Drive-in. I want the name to REMAIN Interstate Avenue. I as a tax payer do not want to fund a change I am NOT in agreement with.
AnonymousLeave our streets alone. Interstate Avenue is apart of history.
AnonymousInterstate Avenue should not be renamed. The renaming of streets only causes more confusion. Current locals will always call it Interstate and visitors will have no idea what they are talking about. The change also forces businesses to change all of their advertising and printed materials, which is not small expense.
ryan gwilliamkeep it the way it is.
Lincoln RascheI live in North Portland, and was a little bowled over by the Rosa Parks re-name. It didn't bother me, but I think another major landmark North Portland name change is too much too soon. Driving Interstate, you can see the history, and it has nothing to do with Cesar Chavez. Thank you.
Jack MayInterstate is part of Portland's history and I would like to see that maintained. I respect the things that C. Chavez did but we as a city have our own identity and Interstate Ave is part of it much more then C. Chavez.
